Cebu As # 1 Tourist Destination In The Phils.

Among the culture of islands and islets that comprise the Visayas, one province stands out: Cebu, a unique blend of tropical paradise and business haven. Dubbed variously as "the next great economic miracle", " Asia's newest boomtown" and "the Queen City of the South", Cebu basks in its enviable status as the most popular tourist and business destination in the Philippines.

Sheltered by the other Visayan islands of Negros, Panay, Leyte, Samar and Bohol, this thin sliver of land is blessed year-round with clement, tropical weather--all the better to enjoy its pristine, sun drenched beaches, washed by the balmy blue waters of the Cebu and Tanon Straits. A plethora of neighboring islets fringed with coral and white sand shores add appeal to an island-hopping vacation.

Yet, Cebu's attractions do not only cater to the itinerant sun-worshipper or beach-lover. The business traveler to this bustling port of call may not have time for more than a day's trip around town. Still, Cebu's cityscapes have their own brand of cosmopolitan charm touched with a unique island warmth. Luxurious accommodations, complete sports facilities, cuisines from the native to the exotic, vibrant nightlife : Cebu will not be found wanting in all the amenities of a growing, booming metropolis.

Bohol, just across the Tanon Strait from Cebu, is a mysterious land of wondrous geological formations, lush forests alive with rare species of flora and fauna, and idyllic seaside towns with Antillan houses that cluster around centuries-old churches. Outlying islands are marine sanctuaries with a wealth of coral reefs harboring a colorful world of tropical marine life.

Cebu; IT Hub of The Phils

With the growing IT industry in the country, Cebu is known to be the IT hub in the Philippines. I believe that Cebu will be known as an IT hub not just in the country but in the whole world.Cebu has a balanced infrastructure development with many domestic and international transportation [options]. And it is the second largest city and fastest growing economy in the country contributing to 10 percent of national export and 30 percent to tourism sales; and has the best government support, and all of the nine universities here offer IT courses with some having tied up with BPO and call centers for skilled manpower.

Cebu produces at least 23,000 fresh (college) graduates a year. Majority of these graduates are employable in any outsourcing company may it be voice (call center) or non-voice operation such as software development, medical transcription, accounting and legal outsourcing among others.

When Cebu City decided to shift into an IT destination back in 2001 instead of focusing on being a manufacturing investment destination, the IT industry here has continuously provided jobs. It now hires over 20,000 people.

Cebu is now the home of big IT firms and outsourcing giants in the world like Wipro, IBM, Accenture. Soon other industry giants like Tata Group of India, Hewlett Packard (HP), and Flour Daniels will make their presence here.

Last year, Cebu was ranked number three as in the world’s top emerging outsourcing destinations.

Beaches in Cebu

Cebu is known to be one of the best tourist destination of Asia because of its white sand beaches. If you are traveling to the northern part of Cebu you can see the beautiful white sand beaches. Mactan Island in Cebu which is situated north east of Cebu is one of the most tourist destination where in beaches is just a minutes drive from Mactan Cebu International Airport. Even the fast development of Lapu-lapu City, it doesn't affect the natural structure of the beaches in Mactan.

Real estate in Mactan is booming due to the high demands of hotels. High rise hotels and condos were constructed near the beaches to cater the thousands of tourist from around the world that visited Cebu and the Islands.

Discovering Cebu & The Rest Of The Islands

Welcome To Cebu....
The eastern province of Cebu is part of Philippines. The history of Cebu is very interesting. Earlier Cebu was known as Sugbo and its inhabitants lived in bamboo houses with their distinct architecture. The people were very ornate in their own way, tattoos, gold jewelry, silks and lip colors were used with abandon. The history of Cebu reveals that at one point of time it was the trade center and Chinese ships laden with goodies like silks and porcelains arrived with unfailing regularity. The goodies from the ships were exchanged for articles like gold, honey, wood and spices from Mollucas. With the arrival of the Spaniards, things changed for Cebu. From Cebu's history, it is known that Ferdinand Magellan with Spanish troops arrived in 1521 AD. Here the Spaniards got a good reception and most of the local villagers converted to Christianity including the ruler, Rajah Humabon. But reaching the slender Strait to Mactan Island, the Spaniards encountered stiff resistance from the locals. The process of colonizing Cebu started with the arrival of Legazpi and Fray Andres de Urdaneta in 1566 AD. The Spanish colonial rule continued for some time and eventually with the passage of time Cebu started coming out on her own. The municipality of Cebu was started in was started in 1905. Cebu was occupied by the Americans for some time , but now with all this behind her, Cebu is one of the most busy and thriving cities of the world.
